CASE STUDY — COMMERCIAL

Cellecta Innovation Centre, Rochester

Full construction scaffold — interior and exterior — for a new build commercial innovation centre in Rochester, Kent

Cellecta is a leading UK manufacturer of acoustic and thermal building products. Their Innovation Centre in Rochester, Kent, is a purpose-built facility housing their product development, testing, and technical operations. Pinnacle provided full construction scaffold for the build programme — both the external wrap scaffold supporting the new build envelope and the internal scaffold giving access to the ceiling structure within the building as fit-out progressed.

This is the kind of contract that requires a scaffold contractor to work as part of the wider construction programme rather than in isolation — coordinating with the main contractor, adapting to the build sequence, and providing access that keeps pace with the programme on both the inside and outside of the building simultaneously.

The Challenge

New build construction scaffold on a commercial site is not a single erection and strike. It is a scaffold that evolves with the build programme. The external wrap scaffold in the photographs shows the building mid-construction — the structural frame up, floor slabs cast, insulation membrane fixed, and the external cladding and facade works beginning. The scaffold has to be in the right configuration at every stage of the programme: high enough to give access to the current level of work, safe and compliant throughout, and adaptable as the build moves forward.

The internal scaffold adds a separate layer of coordination. Working inside a building that is simultaneously being built from the outside requires careful sequencing — internal access structures that can be erected, used, and adapted without interfering with the external programme or the trades working on other parts of the build. The internal shots show a compact, purpose-built internal structure providing ceiling-level access within a timber-framed room where Cellecta's own acoustic and thermal products are being installed in the ceiling and wall assemblies.

Rochester is core Pinnacle service territory — the site sits within our established Kent coverage area and was accessible from our Sidcup base throughout the contract.

Our Approach

Pinnacle provided full external construction scaffold for the Cellecta Innovation Centre, with the scaffold adapted in sequence to support the build programme as the structure progressed from frame to envelope to facade. Working platforms at each level gave the construction team safe, compliant access throughout.

Internal scaffold was erected within the building to provide ceiling-level access for the fit-out trades, designed around the specific dimensions of each room and the requirements of the work being carried out above. The internal structures were erected, adapted, and struck in coordination with the internal programme.

RAMS documentation and method statements were provided before work began on both the external and internal elements. Every operative held a current CISRS card.

Construction scaffold on a new build commercial project requires a contractor who understands the build sequence and can adapt to it. The scaffold that works on day one of the frame is not the same scaffold that works on day sixty of the fit-out. Pinnacle provided both — exterior and interior — coordinated around the Cellecta build programme from start to finish.
