CISRS-accredited scaffolding in Reigate and the surrounding Mole Valley area. Heritage, residential, and commercial scaffolding with 15+ years' experience.
Reigate is one of Surrey's most historic market towns, sitting at the foot of the North Downs within the Reigate and Banstead borough. The town dates to 1140 and the Old Town Hall on the High Street, built in 1728, is still a prominent feature. Much of the town centre is designated conservation area, and Reigate and Banstead borough has 25 designated conservation areas in total, including new designations in Wray Common and Chipstead confirmed in November 2024. The housing stock spans several centuries: Georgian and Victorian commercial frontage in the town centre, large Arts and Crafts and Edwardian villas in the Wray Common and Reigate Hill areas, interwar semis on the North Downs approach roads, and more recent private development in Redhill and the wider borough. The borough sits on Gault Clay and London Clay, making subsidence near mature trees an active consideration for scaffold base placement on many older properties. Pinnacle Scaffolding serves Reigate from our Sidcup base, reaching the town via the M25 J8 in approximately 40 minutes.
Reigate's residential scaffold market is dominated by the period housing that gives the town its character. The Victorian and Edwardian villas in the Wray Common area and on the slopes below Reigate Hill are substantial properties: multi-pitch rooflines, natural slate or clay tile roofs, decorative ridge tiles, chimney stacks on both front and rear elevations, and in many cases original lime mortar joints. Wray Common was confirmed as a new conservation area in November 2024, meaning scaffold on properties within its boundary now requires conservation area awareness. The older core of the town has solid-wall construction without modern cavity walls: tie points must be selected with care and heritage-sensitive brackets used where the scaffold abuts historic masonry or render.
The wider borough beyond the conservation areas has a large stock of interwar semi-detached housing along the A25 corridor and the approach roads from the M25. These properties are in their primary maintenance cycle and generating consistent demand for roof replacements, chimney work, and solar panel installations.
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is the planning and highway authority. The borough now has 25 designated conservation areas following the November 2024 designations at Wray Common, Chipstead, and High Road Chipstead. Any scaffold on a property within these boundaries requires conservation area awareness. Check whether a property is in a conservation area before quoting.
The borough sits on Gault Clay and London Clay. Subsidence and clay heave are active risks near mature trees, particularly in Walton-on-the-Hill, Chipstead, and the greenbelt villages. Base plate placement needs to account for root spread on any job with large trees close to the building.
Reigate Hill has steeply sloped plots. Properties on the hill require individual assessment for base plate positioning, ground conditions, and vehicle access. Do not assume standard residential scaffold design applies on these sites.
Bell Street and Slipshoe Street in the town centre have narrow carriageways. Scaffold delivery for commercial jobs in these streets requires advance route planning and sometimes a temporary traffic management order.
